VAT Registration from R3,500 incl. VAT
We assist businesses with VAT registration where there is genuine trading activity and the correct supporting documentation is available.
VAT registration is not simply a request for a VAT number. SARS will need to verify the business, the registered representative, the bank account, the business address, and the taxable sales records.
If your business meets the voluntary VAT registration requirements and has the required documents ready, we can assist with the registration process.
When can a business register voluntarily for VAT?
Businesses must register for VAT once their taxable supplies exceed R2.3 million within a 12-month period. Businesses with taxable supplies exceeding R120,000 in a 12-month period may also apply for voluntary VAT registration, subject to SARS approval.
Documents usually required for VAT registration
To apply for VAT registration, SARS normally requires supporting documents such as:
Registered representative
documents
- Copy of the registered representative’s valid ID;
- Recent selfie of the representative holding the ID document;
- Proof of residential address not older than 3 months.
Company documents
- Company registration certificate / CoR 14.3 or Notice of Incorporation;
- Proof of business address not older than 3 months.
Bank and sales records
- Internet-generated or e-stamped bank statement, or stamped bank letter, not older than 3 months;
- Sales invoices and bank statements showing taxable sales exceeding R120,000 in the preceding 12 months.
***Accepted proof of address by SARS ***
Registering for VAT at the correct time is important. Businesses that fail to register when required may face penalties, while premature registration can create unnecessary compliance obligations.
This means the business should already have trading activity and records showing that taxable sales have taken place.
VAT registration is not suitable where the business has no sales, no supporting records, or no evidence that it meets the voluntary registration requirements.
Complete and accurate documents help reduce delays and SARS verification queries.
